A long beach framed by trees in the north of the island

The island’s north

Nai Thon & Nai Yang

Two national park beaches, three and seven kilometres from the airport. The north is for those who come for the quiet and would rather not spend an hour on the road.

Airport (HKT)
Nai Yang 3 km, Nai Thon 7 km; 10–20 minutes by car
Nai Thon beach
about a kilometre of sand between jungle-covered headlands
National park
Sirinat: Nai Thon, Nai Yang, Mai Khao
Sea
November–April for swimming; May–October, swell and rip currents
Nearby
Bang Tao and Laguna, a few kilometres to the south

The north begins at the terminal doors

Nai Yang lies three kilometres south of the airport, Nai Thon seven. Both beaches belong to Sirinat National Park, and from the water you see it at once: the headlands and slopes around Nai Thon are covered in jungle, not hotels.

Nai Thon is about a kilometre of golden sand between two headlands. A narrow road with small restaurants runs along the beach, and a few villas and hotels sit on the slopes. There are no crowds even at sunset—and the sunsets here are red.

Nai Yang is livelier. The beach lies in the shade of casuarina trees, with seafood restaurants, low-rise hotels and quiet bars behind it. A reef shelters the bay: in the dry season people snorkel here, in the monsoon they kitesurf.

Twenty minutes instead of an hour

From the south of the island the terminal is about an hour away; from here it takes ten to twenty minutes. Families with small children value this after a long flight, as do guests on a short trip and anyone leaving on a night flight.

No one comes here for restaurants or nightlife. For those, people head south to Bang Tao and Laguna—and come back to the quiet.

The quiet of Nai Thon, or everything close by in Nai Yang

Nai Thon, for quiet

The villas stand on the slopes at the southern end of the beach, in a guarded estate a few metres from the sand: sea views, generous pools, staff. The choice is small, because the surrounding slopes remain national park land.

Nai Yang, to have everything close

Closer to the airport and to the restaurants by the beach. Practical if your flight is late at night or early in the morning.

If you want a wider choice

The slopes of Layan and Bang Tao beach are a few kilometres to the south. We will suggest villas there too, if choice matters more to you than a short drive.

From landing to a night departure

  • Arrival. A driver meets you at the airport, and twenty minutes later you are by the pool.
  • Dinner without going out. A chef, produce from the market, a table by the pool in time for sunset.
  • The sea by season. In the dry season, snorkelling early in the morning at Banana Beach, a kilometre to the south, before the day groups arrive. In the monsoon, kitesurfing at Nai Yang: an instructor, equipment, and timing set by the wind.
  • An evening in Laguna. A table at a restaurant and a driver who waits for as long as you need.
  • A night departure. We agree a late check-out with the villa in advance and tell you straight away what it will cost. The terminal is twenty minutes away, so there is no need to hurry.

The villa and the transfer are handled by one manager, so a single request is enough.
